A day to plant seeds of friendship,
nourish creativity and harvest new skills.
The Fort Gallery will host a day of workshops and fun at the country home of one of their members.
The day will run from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm with a great selection of hands-on workshops and demos from experienced artists and teachers. There will also be life drawing sessions and an art show.
Come and share skills and ideas or spend your day painting in a beautiful landscape with ponds and horses.
Adults at any level of art making practice are welcome.

Directions:
Property is located in South Langley, 2208 232nd street.
232nd South is a main exit off HWY #1 for those coming from Vancouver. Take 232nd south, follow over overpass, go past gas station and white spot and look for sign to turn left onto 232nd. For those coming from South Surrey or White Rock, follow 16th ave and turn left onto 232nd street, farm is located about the 10th farm down, turn right into driveway. There will be a Fort Gallery sign on the entrance.

Coffee and refreshments will be included but please bring your own bag lunch so we can all concentrate on our art making.
Workshop leaders are donating their time. Proceeds will be used for the running of The Fort Gallery
which is a non-profit artists’ collective.
Note: This event will not be cancelled if it rains.
We will simply shift our events into the barns and buildings.

Workshops
“Ink & Watercolour for travelers”: Suzanne Northcott
Learn how to record those memorable images you see when you are
traveling in new places or simply exploring daily life at home --
using the direct method of ink and watercolour. Please bring a sketch book, fine tipped pens (i.e. micron pigma) and watercolours.
“Painting - fearlessly - Plein Air in Oils”:
Susan Falk & Bob Wakefield
Learn to enhance your landscape paintings using pure colours! This is a workshop designed for those who would like to learn the concept of mixing colours and have a better understanding of colour theory. Our inspiration will be the water reflections in the ponds and rolling green fields!
“Acrylic Explorations”: Dorthe Eisenhardt
Participants will explore intuitive and expressive non-objective abstract [painting with the aim of breaking free form established limits and habits,
Supplies: good sized painting surface (canvas, gessoed board or masonite) - at least 30’ x40”. Gesso, matte medium, house painters brush about 2.5”, and your regular paints and brushes. Also bring a spraybottle, small squeeze bottles if you have them, papertowels, gloves and sponges (kitchen type), small containers for mixed paint, and a water container.
“3-D workshop - Wall Sculpture”: Maggie Woycenko
Using a canvas stretcher or cradle board, create a sculpture using inexpensive materials, found objects, and paint. Bring your own canvas or cradle board along with any found objects you would like to incorporate into your work. Other materials such wood, lino tile, metal, and other materials will be available for a nominal fee. Cutters, drill, adhesives,hardware, and a variety of paints will be provided.
“Personal Journalling with Paint” : Lucy Adams
While using a very free style of painting followed by a period of reflection and time for writing, you are guided in exploring your own inner world. Combining the two processes of writing and painting can be a way to greatly enhance the time you spend at personal journalling. Bring your journal or buy one at the ArtFarm . Participants are encouraged to use very inexpensive materials, (ie. poster paint, crayons, etc.) therefore the materials needed will be provided for this workshop. There will be an additional $10.00 fee to cover those expenses.
“Printmaking”: Jo Ann Sheen
Participants will carve and hand print their own linocut. If you have an image in mind, great, just keep it simple or bring a piece of fruit or a vegetable for inspiration. Supply list (available at Opus):
-Basic lino cutter assortment (Speedball offers a 5 cutter set @$15.50) or your own assortment of carving tools
-Linoleum (or softer rubber material) for carving.
-Water based block printing ink, black (colours optional)
-Brayer for rolling ink (a variety of brayers to share is supplied)
-smooth surface palette for rolling out ink, must be bigger than your brayer. A plexiglass monoprint plate works well and can be used for future monoprint endeavours. (8 x 10 @ 4.75) Glass palette also works.
-large wooden spoon, metal spoon, rolling pin, chinese brayer (any, all) for printing
-pad of newsprint paper , cleanup rags (Instructor will supply printing paper at cost.)

3:00 – 4:00 pm DEMO “Digital Media as Artistic Tool”: Bette Laughy
Join Bette as she demonstrates the creative and ethical use of computers in one’s art practice. She will discuss giclees as digital originals, and the most practical uses of a computer when planning and executing work. She will show you how to extend your painting in new ways using digital imaging, Bette taught writing, graphics, and computer skills for 25 years, then turned to fine art. She now incorporates the computer into her painting practice. www.bettelaught.ca

Participants are encouraged to continue work they started in the morning, attend the Digital Demo or wander the grounds, Gallery members will be available to give feed back.
